GICC golf finishes 3rd at Minden Invite
(Axtell, NE) - The Grand Island Central Catholic boys golf team finished 3rd in the team standings on Thursday at the Minden Invite held at Awarii Dunes. The Crusaders shot a 324 as a team. Kearney high finished in the top spot of the team standings with a 305 and Kearney JV at 2nd place with a 323. The top individual finisher for the Crusaders was Will Goering with a 73.
GICC golf coach Craig Rupp had some thoughts after the invite. " Played very well today, very pleased. The kids' hard work these last couple of weeks is paying off. I thought a 324 was very reasonable considering the wind today. We had to score a 9-8-and 2 7's today on our cards, and if we erase those we shoot better, but overall I was happy. Willie is really focused right now...73 is such a great score, and he knows it should have been better. He goes 3 over the last 3 holes of the day. Bowdie Fox did the same thing. If we could finish a little better, we will all be happier with our scores. I really was pleased with Jackson and Joey...They did play well today, Henry is finding his groove and Joey is just about ready to score...so very happy. Also to see Jonathan come back after a tough front....that was really encouraging. I think some of the hard work is rubbing off and if we can put it together next Tuesday. I think the boys will be pleased with their results."
